Did Obama Really Gamble with U.S. Healthcare Reform?
The health care debate leading to reform in the U.S. has been a long and tumultuous one; with Canada often appearing as a divisive counterpoint in debate: we were the ugly socialist neighbour to the north, Republicans often claimed, where socialized medicare has been a disaster.
With Obama’s reforms now law, the most popular meme in media outlets was that the President and the Democrats have taken a big gamble by pushing through the changes. I disagree. Over at The Mark, I argue that the real gamble in the health care battle was to sit back and do nothing at all.
